...an addiction to op shopping.

This week's bargains included some fine (handmade?) tatting $1, rose lace hand-made in China, approx 1/2 a card of 48 yards $2, a NZ badge/tie pin that says ONWARD 50 cents, 1.7 metres of very dark denim $1, and a gorgeous old gingham apron with handworked pockets and hem $2.

The lace does have some age spots, but is looking pretty good for its age and nothing that a soak in nappysan won't get rid of.  (Oh if only it was so easy for me to get rid of my age "spots")

Also in the mail today was a gorgeous package for ME!

I love mail, especially this sort of mail...

I was the very lucky winner of the Frank and Dean giveaway that was hosted on Stella's blog the golden adventures of a very dark horse.

Beautiful postcards, envelopes, stickers and other gorgeousness.  Stella and her sister Rosa May are artists have just started their new business F 'n D Printers of Distinction, printing some of their gorgeous art work to share. Great for gifts and also for reviving the art of letter writing.

And it's not too late if you would like the Quilters magazine and other goodies, just pop a comment in and  I will do a draw thingy on Monday and I will include some of the rose lace in with it as well as some other goodies.

I don't mind the stains on the doilies, they may come out with a bit of nappy san but if not they will work well in a quilt. 

Last Day for Giveaway and Breaking the Diet

Sshhhh... don't tell anyone (especially Mr S) but I have broken my op shop diet. I know we don't need any more "stuff", but how could I resist these wee babies; they are not "stuff".

They won't take up much room (they are only 9.5 cms in diameter) and they don't require feeding.  The little marks on their bottoms say they are Royal Doulton and my research on the web indicates that they were manufactured between 1902 and 1922.  The tree and flowers are all hand painted.

Beautiful for putting a little jam or pickle into for the table or to just look at.

At the Oppy

I am an Op Shopper.  There are several op shops where we live and I always allow another 5 minutes or so when I go to the supermarket to just pop in and have a browse.  Most of the time I come away with nothing, but occassionally you strike gold and there are some real treats for very little money.  Today was one of those days...

Six of these little milk glass jars with lids.  I don't know what there original purpose would have been.

This great tin and a wonderful tea towel from Austria.  It could do with a soak but it still has a lot of life left in it.  I will have to think of a suitable use for it.  Should I use it for it's original purpose - to dry dishes or in some sewing?  Any suggestions.

I also picked up some lovely old buttons and two cute embroidered doileys which I will use either to make some needle books or as quilt labels.

Also from a couple of weeks ago these singer sewing table drawers which some silly person has painted gold.  I will need to get out with some paint stripper and see if I can restore them to there former glory.
